Here's Another Accutron Resource Forum first ! Seen here for the first time ANYWHERE The Genuine Accutron 214H 24 Hour Dials Dished/Flat !
First a little background, There are two types of Genuine Accutron 214H 24 Hour Dials, The first is the "flat" dials made by Bulova Timer Labs for their line of clocks, timers, and timer switches, and as such, they have special flat pillar plates that are flat where the dials makes contact...
The Bulova Timer Labs flat dial as seen on the right and the Bulova wristwatch dished dial as seen on the left in the picture below...
The Bulova Timer Labs flat dial will rest against the pillar plate flat directly...
Or in the case of the more complex timer switches, there is a flat sub-housing between the pillar plate and dial that holds the switching which the flat dial rests against as seen below...
There is also a second type of the 24 Hour dials made by Bulova, The dished dials made by Bulova are only for wrist watches which have a convex pillar plate that is rounded where the dials make contact.
You can see the convex surface of the wristwatch pillar plates below...
And the dished dial as seen to the left and the flat dial as seen to the right in the picture below...
But the dished dial vs flat dial is not the only difference between both 24 Hour dials, They are also "keyed" or "indexed" differently as one dial is rotated 90 degrees to the other by moving the mounting feet on all the Bulova Timer Labs line of clocks, timers, and timer switches dials and as such the movement sits in the case sideways compared to facing upwards in the wrist watches.
You can see the 90-degree difference between the two 24 Hour dials by the shift in the indexing notches by 90-degrees in the pictures below...
The flat dial...
And the dished dial...
The 24 hour marker will be in the 6 o:clock position with the 24 Hour BTL dials OR the 12 hour marker will be in the 3 o:clock position with the 12 Hour BTL dials if someone attempted to use one of the flat Bulova Timer Labs dials in a wrist watch case ! NOTE that if a flat dial was attempted to used in a wristwatch case the movement would be off by 90 degrees AND the movement would not go all the way into the bezel which would prevent the rear cover installation!
Here's a side by side of the backs of both dial types with the 24-hour marker facing up...
Again the dished dial...
And the flat dial...
There you have it, Another "REMEMBER YOU SEEN THESE HERE FIRST" from The Accutron Resource Forum !
